Sing Out! CREDO, a new ecumenical mixed choir, gets going in Oak Cliff and is looking for singers
Jonathan Palant
If you love to sing, Jonathan Palant as a deal for you. The well-known local conductor and music educator has started CREDO, a multi-denominational, faith-based choir, and is looking for singers. Credo takes its name from the Latin word meaning “I believe.” As far as Palant knows, it’ll be the only choir of its kind in the area.
Palant, who is minister of music at Kessler Park United Methodist Church and previously was artistic director of the Turtle Creek Chorale, says the choir’s “mission is to unite individuals of varying faith traditions through song, and to explore varying faith traditions using a variety of musical styles.” All faiths are welcome, and Palant has deliberately kept the time commitment required to participate to a minimum. The choir’s work will include concerts, local mission work and a June 2013 tour/mission trip to Cuba.
The repertoire will include works by Christiansen, Rutter, Stroope and more (see website for full list). The choir will rehearse one Sunday evening monthly leading up to a concert in mid-June of 2013. The first rehearsal will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. this Sunday at Kessler Park UMC, 1215 Turner Ave., Dallas, and interested singers are encouraged to attend.
